Why does Sphere want my calendar?
To lay your events along the day. Each one becomes a capsule on the arc, in the colour of the calendar it came from. Sphere asks for full access rather than read-only because you can also add and edit events from inside it, using Apple's own editor.
Why does it want my location?
The arc is the sun's actual path, which is different in Chicago than in Lisbon. Sphere asks once, while you are using it, and keeps no history. You can also type a place instead.
What if I say no to both?
It still works. With no location it draws a default city; with no calendar it draws the day with nothing on it. Neither refusal breaks anything.
How do I turn the wheel?
Drag anywhere on it. One full rotation moves four hours, and it carries past midnight into the next day rather than stopping. The centre button acts on whatever the wheel is pointing at, and NOW brings you back.
What are the clouds?
The forecast, drawn rather than iconed. Cloud gathers in three layers by altitude, rain hangs beneath it, storms build where the air is unstable, and fog settles as a field of haze. On a clear night there are stars.
Where are the widgets?
Long-press your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap the plus, and search for Sphere. There is a Lock Screen arc, two Home Screen sizes, and a Live Activity that runs for the event you are currently in.
Can I change the place without moving?
Open the menu and type a place in the field at the top. The clock moves with it, so a day in Lisbon is drawn on Lisbon's hours.
